Moissanite Education

What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is a naturally occurring mineral composed of Silicone Carbide, first discovered in a Meteorite crater in Arizona by French scientist Dr Henri Moissan in 1893.

It is an incredibly rare naturally occurring substance, and almost all Moissanite available today is grown in a Laboratory, making it an ethical choice, with very little environmental impact.

Moissanite is an amazing alternative to diamond, but it is by no means a synthetic diamond or a diamond substitute. It is a unique gemstone, with its own unique properties and characteristics.

In fact, as you can see from the above chart, it has more fire and brilliance than a diamond. Measuring 2.65-2.69 on the refractive index compared to diamond, as well as displaying over double the amount of dispersion. It is these qualities that give Moissanite its uniquely identifiable look – often described as …

How to Keep Your Jewelry in Mint Condition

Jewelry is more than just an accessory—it's an expression of your style and often holds sentimental value. To ensure your jewelry remains as stunning as the day you acquired it, follow these detailed care tips:

1. Avoid Exposure to Water and Chemicals

Water, particularly chlorinated or saltwater, can cause metal jewelry to tarnish and gemstones to lose their luster. Chemicals found in household cleaning products, perfumes, and cosmetics can also be harmful. Always remove your jewelry before swimming, bathing, or applying lotions and sprays. If your jewelry does come into contact with water or chemicals, gently dry it with a soft cloth as soon as possible.

2. Proper Storage

Storing your jewelry correctly is essential to prevent damage. Use a soft-lined jewelry box with individual compartments to keep each piece separate. This prevents scratches, especially with softer metals like gold and platinum. For delicate chains, hang them or lay them flat to avoid tangling. You can also use anti-tarnish strips in your jewelry box to help preserve the shine of silver pieces.

3. Regular Cleaning

Jewelry that’s worn regularly can accumulate dirt, oils, and other residues, dulling its appearance. To keep your jewelry sparkling, clean it gently after each wear. A soft, lint-free cloth is perfect for wiping away fingerprints and dust. For a deeper clean, soak your jewelry in warm water mixed with a small amount of mild dish soap. Use a soft brush to gently scrub intricate areas, but avoid brushing too hard, especially on delicate settings or softer stones like opals or pearls. After cleaning, rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly before storing.

4. Careful Handling

Even the most durable jewelry requires careful handling. Avoid wearing your jewelry during strenuous activities like sports, gardening, or any task that could cause impact or abrasion. Rings, in particular, are susceptible to knocks and scratches, so consider removing them when using your hands for heavy tasks. If you’re dressing, jewelry should be the last thing you put on to avoid snagging on clothing and the first thing you take off when undressing.

5. Avoid Prolonged Sun Exposure

Extended exposure to direct sunlight can fade some gemstones and cause metals to discolor. When not wearing your jewelry, store it in a dark, cool place away from sunlight.

By following these comprehensive care tips, you can ensure that your jewelry remains as beautiful and valuable as ever. Proper maintenance not only preserves the appearance of your pieces but also protects the emotional and financial investment they represent. Whether it’s a cherished heirloom or a favorite fashion statement, your jewelry deserves the best care to shine brightly for years to come.
